Oman Air Boosts Economic Development with Launch of New Muscat – Jaaluni Charter Service.

As the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, Oman Air has always put development of the Sultanate and its citizens at the forefront. And staying true to its mission, Oman Air took a major step in boosting domestic tourism and economic development with the launch of the highly critical Muscat – Jaaluni charter service. The sector will shorten distances, save time, effort and money, as well as accelerate the pace of development of the Governorate.

Now travelling up and down will no longer be a tiring, double-digit long hour drive. Keeping in mind the ambitious plans of the growth and industrial development of Al Wusta Governorate Oman Air will operate 3 flights weekly between Muscat and Jaaluni. While substantially reducing the travel time by at least five times, this sector is expected to spur the governorate’s economic, social and tourism growth. The new air service, will carry the officials, investors and potential individual and corporate investors back and forth.

The Royal directives to link infrastructure and social development are evidently boosted by the launch of this sector. The inauguration of Oman Air’s direct flight between Muscat and Jaaluni airport in the Al Wusta Governorate located on the southern coast of Oman, took place on Monday 19 November 2012, with His Excellency Yahya bin Said Al Jabri, Chairman of the Board of the Special Economic Zone Authority as the chief guest.

The flight was preceded by a cake-cutting ceremony at Muscat International Airport with H.E. Yahya bin Said Al Jabri and host of high-level delegation of high-ranking dignitaries from various ministries of Oman in attendance.

Now for starters, Jaaluni Airport is the newly constructed airport in Al Wusta Governorate situated on the eastern coast of Oman. The area which has immense natural limestone deposits, vast uninhabited land, and the least population according to the last census, is all set to grow by leaps and bounds once the ongoing projects are realised. This region is famous for its Arabian Oryx reserve and untouched natural beauty. It is also home to major port and Dry dock. Many projects have kick started too along with construction of hotels and other tourism ventures. Also, construction works of the airport, internal road network, electricity and water projects are underway. The master plan of the area includes zones for light and medium industries, petrochemical complex, oil refinery and fishing port and residential and commercial facilities.

This initiative provides a much-needed air transport link with Muscat, the new service underlines Oman Air’s commitment to supporting economic growth and increased prosperity throughout the Sultanate
